Aer Arann and Aer Lingus Promote New Aberdeen-Dublin Route
(Monday, 10th January 2010) Senior representatives of Aer Arann and Aer Lingus were in Aberdeen today for a special media, tourism and trade briefing to promote the recently launched new route between Dublin and Aberdeen with onward connections from Dublin to Aer Lingus trans-atlantic services.
Commencing in March, the new route has been introduced as part of the ongoing franchise agreement between the two Irish airlines which also includes the addition of a new Bristol to Dublin route. Combined with the new franchise routes, Aer Arann and Aer Lingus also recently announced the addition of a sixth ATR 72 aircraft to the Aer Lingus Regional fleet.
Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Aer Arann, will fly between Dublin and Aberdeen every day except Saturday and flights will be available from £29.99 one way including taxes. The new link will promote business ties between Dublin and Scotland’s prosperous oil region as well as promoting leisure and tourist travel.
With no trans-Atlantic services available from Aberdeen the new connection through Dublin to Aer Lingus New York flights and onwards throughout the United States will be a major advantage for business and leisure passengers.
As well as the convenience of flying from their home airport connecting passengers from Aberdeen will also benefit from the new US Customs and Immigrations clearance facilities in Dublin that will allow them to arrive in the US as domestic passengers.
Commenting on the announcement at the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel today, Aer Arann Chief Executive Paul Schütz said, “We’re delighted to be in Aberdeen today to promote our new Dublin Aberdeen route. This announcement demonstrates the confidence of Aer Arann and Aer Lingus in the franchise flying model that matches capacity and frequency requirements to demand”.
“This route has great attractions for both markets and will benefit both business and tourism by stimulating the point to point market with excellent business timings and leisure options and by providing through booking connections to the United States from Aberdeen”, Mr. Schütz concluded.
Welcoming the announcement Declan Kearney, Director of Communications, Aer Lingus said, “Aer Lingus is delighted to be extending our network into Aberdeen. This new route marks an expansion of the partnership between Aer Lingus and Aer Arann and we look forward to welcoming customers on board our Aberdeen to Dublin service and our transatlantic services in 2011.
